Lite-On iHAS B & Cross-Flashable Drive Models Compatible with c4eva's iXtreme Burner MAX Firmware for XGD3

c4eva's "iXtreme Burner MAX" customized PC DVD burner fw allows for burning 100% of an XGD3 ISO to regular DVD+R DL discs. Preferred media for error-free burns are Verbatim MKM001 (burning at 2.4x), and Verbatim MKM003 (burning at 2.4x or 4x). Note: "A" versions have MTK chipset, but are old and untested. "Y" versions have the NEC chipset, which is not supported. All regular features of the burner function as normal, including LightScribe, LabelTag, Smart-Erase, Smart-Burn, Smart-X, and SuperAllWrite. Even with the custom iXtreme Burner MAX fw flashed to the drive, it is still fully functional as a regular burner, not only for XGD3, but also XGD2, and all other ISOs and data, up to 8.7GB worth.

Lite-On iHAS Models

iHAS124B (Baseline model)
iHAS224B (Baseline model + LightScribe)
iHAS324B (Baseline model + SmartErase)
iHAS424B (Baseline model + LightScribe + SmartErase [equivalent to 224 + SmartErase])
iHAS524B (Baseline model + LabelTag + SmartErase)
iHAS624B (Baseline model + LabelTag + LightScribe + SmartErase [equivalent to 524 + LightScribe])

Cross-Flashable Models

In addition to the normal Lite-On iHAS "B" burners, there are several other drive models of different brands that can be cross-flashed to an iHAS by using the original Lite-On iHAS firmware and EEPROM utilities. These cross-flashable drives are re-badged OEM drives, which means they are manufactured by Lite-On and contain the same internal hardware and components as the Lite-On iHAS, but are sold under a different brand name (ASUS, Dell, HP, Plextor, TEAC), some with a different faceplate/bezel on the front of the drive, and/or with different retail packaging.

Please note that the cross-flashable drive models marked with a * in the list below have multiple revisions, of which only the "B" revision is supported. Revision "Y" (NEC chipset), "A" (older MTK chipset), "C" (MTK chipset/1MB flash), and "D" (MTK chipset/1MB flash) are not compatible. c4eva's custom Burner MAX firmware is based on the Lite-On iHAS "B" revision which has an MTK chipset with 2MB flash.

The revision letter is usually indicated somewhere on the retail box and also on the label sticker on the drive itself. For some drives, the revision letter is part of the drive model, or appears near or after the end of the drive model on the label sticker. Depending on when a particular model was manufactured and the retail destination country/region, the configuration and placement of the stickers may be slightly different; different arrangement, dual barcodes, different certification logos, and so on. If you are purchasing a cross-flashable drive online or from a retail store, you should have customer service or the salesperson check the label on the box or the sticker on the drive to ensure that it is in fact a "B" revision.

Please refer to the gallery of images below the list for examples of some of the different revisions' drive label stickers and box labels.

The following drive models are confirmed capable of being cross-flashed with c4eva's iXtreme Burner MAX firmware:

ASUS
DRW-24B3LT*
DRW-24B3ST*
DRW-24B1LT*

There are tons of B's still out there, and that amount increases exponentially when you add in the cross-flashable models. There's really no shortage of these drives, so it makes no sense for him to put time right now into trying to re-do it for the newer revisions. Time spent on 360 drive fw takes priority. So, with all due respect, if you can't find one, you're not looking hard enough. ;)

Hello Admin and the c4evaspeaks group,

Iam really thankful for all your work :)
I have a question though, I googled, checked forums etc. You have stated that the required cache is 2mb for burner max, however this model ASUS DRW-24B3ST, ALL of the drives have 1.5mb cache and nothing less, also theres no info whether there are B or A drives etc. My question is, if 1.5mb is the available cache for these drives, would it be compatible? also do these drives have chipset revision too like the ihas series? Thank you so much guys <3

    • avatar Ibanezzer says:

No bluray burners will do it as of yet. It doesn't matter how new they are. C4e has written firmware for the specific drives that burn the games. The burner must be capable of using his firmware so it can only be the ones listed on the main page. Ebay is chock full of the burners you need.

I've tried looking everywhere and haven't been able to buy a B revision of any of the drives…
I went into several stores and one of them didn't have the rev so I gave it a shot wound up with the D now I've just bought a ASUS DRW-24B3ST and it wound up being C, I saw the c on it but I also saw Factory ID B.

Of course once again I figured I would take my chances and also looked through every box they had for something that said B rather then C which I couldn't find.

So anyone near the Southern California area know where I can pickup one of these drives?

Yes, the iHAS122-04 will work as long as it is a "B" revision. Check the label sticker to be sure. The manufacture date doesn't matter, as long as it's a "B". Here are some photos of label variations showing the "B" revision of iHAS122-04:

So I have the DH-16ABSH11B confirmed "B" model based on the chipset (MT1839LN). I wrote all the possible burner max firmwares (using the instructions found on the firmware pack — 124b, 224b, etc.) to the drive and afterwards none would recognize a blank dvd when inserted. Am I doing something wrong? Am I missing a step? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Anybody know a place that still has revision b models of any of the cheaper dvd drives for sale in bulk to wholesale prices. I am looking to buy hundreds but a cost effective order of a dozen or so would be good too. If i can locate them i will be listing on ebay after flashing them. I sold about a 100 of the ihas124-04b but cant seem to locate a good source for that or other drives. I will be giving back to the gaming community if i am able to purchase them by selling them with ixetreme on them at a price that i only profit $10 or less off each one after fees and shipping.

I have found an DVD-Writer LiteOn IHAS122-18 i don't know if the chipset is or isn't B. Although it says that it has a 2MB buffer. Would this be enough?

    • avatar admin says:

You should ask them to verify if it's a "B", just to be sure. It's entirely possible they may have cut-n-pasted the info or that it's incorrect, so I wouldn't take it for granted that it's definitely a 2MB buffer.

Hi everybody, I want to share my experience for all of you that want to burn full XGD3 iso with the new model iHAS124D. Indeed, it's no longer possible to buy a "B" model now.

    So with the "D" model
1-Flash the drive to the latest 8L0A firmware (http://www.firmwarehq.com/download_2030-file_8L0A.EXE.html)
    2-Download EEPROM utility 6.2.0
    3-Download Burnermax playload tool 0.15
    4-Download and install Imgburn 2.5.7.0
    5-Download ABGX 1.0.6

    - Ok after flashing the drive, open EEPROM Utility and go to "Option" tab. Activate smartburn, Force HT and On line HT. Let Over speed disable. You can close EEPROM Utility
    - With ABGX patch the iso with level 3 under "autofix" tab
    - Launch Burnermax playload tool. Check "auto" and put a média (I use the cheapest one for the moment, the DVD+DL "MIBPG101-R10-65"). Burnermax shows now "enabled" if not click on Burnermax button again.
    - Launch Imgburn and click on "write image file to disk"
Go to "tools/settings/build/page2" put the buffer size to 512.
Go to "tools/settings/write". Perform opc = off, Enable burn proof = on, layer break = calculate optimal
    Click OK to close
Be sure to have the right writer selected il you have several. Check "verify". load the .dvd on the source tab.
    Chose 4x write speed
-click on the small drive options button in the lower right corner (the gear checked). Under lite-on tab verify that all options are correctly configured (like you did with EEPROM utility) and do an clear OPC history. OK to close.
    - All done, last thing before writing, verify that the value free space = 8 738 897 920 bytes, if it's not, click on "mode/read" and then "mode/write" to update.

You can click on write and wait, the burning is 100% and verify 100%. You can verify it again under ABGX if you want but it is fully stealth.

    :-)

I highly doubt it. Try re-flashing the drive first. A few people have done this successfully after having burn issues. The "B" is the chipset, not the firmware, otherwise, everyone would be flashing new drives with firmware. If it's a burn issue, it's probably the laser anyway, that or ImgBurn has changed your settings, which it will try to do on the newest version if you don't watch it. Try a few of those things and see what happens.

Thanks for the quick reply. I tried reflashing the firmware and it was still occurring. If the chipset is on the PCB, couldn't I swap it with another drive with a different chipset(new laser). Sorry in advance if that sounds dumb. I'm not sure how all the pieces work in the drive.

There are Sony Optiarc drives on Newegg for like $30 that are designed for overburn. I bought one as a backup to my IHAS 324B and tested it on a couple of games. It works perfectly without any flashing required. Just load the ISO in Imgburn and burn it. Everyone that didn't get a drive when they first got announced back in the day is just gonna have suck it up and let go of a couple of dollars. It's worth it.

is it required to update the firmware of these drives before flashing burner max to them?
this is what you have to do with all of the IHAS drives.

if you use the Burner Max Payload, you don't have to update the firmware, but you will have to run the payload tool each time you overburn a disc. you can also just write the Burner Max Firwmware then you'll be able to overburn all the time.

thank you for your response, but i think i didn't ask my question very well.

i meant which original firmware for ihas drives would i use to put on one of these drives before flashing to burner max firmware.

from what it says here :
"In addition to the normal Lite-On iHAS "B" burners, there are several other drive models of different brands that can be cross-flashed to an iHAS by using the original Lite-On iHAS firmware and EEPROM utilities"

i believe this means i will need to flash different firmware first.

if you are asking if you need to first, flash stock ihas firmware, and then second, flash burner max firmware (which should just be a modified version of the stock ihas firmware), i don't think so. flashing burner max would just overwrite the stock firmware anyway so that would seem unnecessary to me. i see the part you have quoted but it also says "The following drive models are confirmed capable of being cross-flashed with c4eva's iXtreme Burner MAX firmware."

thank you, i don't know where to find that though.

your comment answered my question. since with the ihas drives the tutorial says you should update the firmware before flashing to burner max i wasn't sure if the same applied to these other drives but i guess not.
