If LT-MAX is a feature of the firmware, I’m guessing what happens is that the firmware somehow lies to the rest of the operating system and tells it that the disc is the correct size while in fact missing some of the extra padding. XGD3 games have a maximum space that’s 182MB greater than a DVD+R DL can normally hold, but I don’t think any XGD3 games so far have actually used so much space that there’s not at least 182MB of random padding on the disc. If this is correct, and the team have found a way to fake the maximum size of the disc as displayed to the operating system, then it would work as long as no XGD3 game uses less than 182MB of padding.
