Hey Admin,

I was thinking that this site might benefit greatly from a short FAQ that addresses some common questions and complaints. I’ve noticed a lot of people confused and upset regarding why certain drives have FW, release dates for FW, quality testing, etc. It seems to take up too large a proportion of discussion on this website and dilutes more useful information.

Some things that I would recommend including are: why there are no eta for FW release, why QA is important, how QA works, why newer drives don’t have FW yet, and how priority is generally given in regards to projects that c4eva works on.

I know that you’ve answered a lot of these questions in your posts, but having those answers in an easy to find/refrence place might go a long ways towards decreasing some of the flaming, complaining, and constant requests for FW and eta’s.

Cheers,
hypnodx

do you think the admin knows the answers to all these questions? i don’t. most of what you posted was general common sense however. “no eta” so as not to give false expectations, QA is important to make sure it works. newer drives are waiting because they are last. c4e works on whatever he wants to work on in whatever order he wants to work. hitachi may or may not have to wait for this dae.bin problem, but c4e is not the only one working on that, and hitachi LT 2 is already done, but just in testing, so why would it be delayed…? the answers to the important questions are always posted on the main page and sometimes in stickys here in the forum… if people can’t take the time to read and want spoonfed then there is nothing we can do. i was on a the xbox360iso forum and the very first night the thread regarding this dae.bin issue was up to 100 pages long (mostly just people saying “yeah mine’s broken too” or “what do we do”), i think it’s over 200 by now… there will always be idiots who think their question is the most important question and all we do is sit around and look for people who need help… we are here for answers too, and if there are no answers, then we just have to wait. there are plenty of faqs (http://bit.ly/ap25faq) but no one takes the time to read so what difference would it make?

Actually, as for the questions I recommended, I do think the admin knows the answer, because at one time or another I’ve seen the answer in posts from the admin. The problem is that there’s no easy way to find those answers other than wading through pages of crap. As you said, people aren’t going to take the time to read through all that before posting stupid questions. But instead of the question simply being ignored or people posting erroneous or speculatory answers, the answer could be a simple “read the faq”. Will it magically get rid of all the dumb questions and flaming? Of course not. i just thought it might help decrease it somewhat. You obviously disagree, and that’s fine.

I don’t think a FAQ would be useful for answering questions like, when is lt 3.0 coming out or questions that are transitory like will the current version of LT+ work after the dash update last week. Answers to those questions will constantly change and no longer be important as time goes on. But I constantly see people asking the same questions over and over again. There are a lot of people who aren’t programmers and don’t know how QA works, don’t understand that being on the QA team isn’t open to public, that there will never be an ETA for releases, etc. The answers to all those questions have been provided by admin at one time or another, I’ve seen them, but it would take a bit of searching for me to find them. I just think that it would helpful if there was a central location with an official answer to those questions for people who aren’t as dilligent and expect to be spoonfed answers.

I agree. And it’d be great if the admin used this forum too… they write in the comments but it’s really hard work trying to find anything useful when all the comments are just people arguing about hitachi!!
