I just had to ask, judging by what I’ve read here over the last month or two; Hitachis are usually the last drives to get FW updates. Before someone jumps on my back I’m not even asking for any ETAs or demanding anything. Just wanna find out if anyone has heard anything about it.

At least the rumors should keep us entertained till the FW comes out.

Unfortunately Hitachi has indeed always been last going back to Lt+ 1.1. For a little perspective, by time 79′s got 2.0b, it was very close to two full months AFTER BenQ, Samsung AND LiteOn slim & phat all had 2.0 so I wouldn’t hold my breath on 78/79 getting 3.0 aaaannytime soon. I’m sure that’s not the answer you were hoping for but sadly it’s the cold and brutal truth =/

I certainly won’t jump all over you because I too have a 79, but it just so happens my 79 does not perform AP25 checks so I’m not anxiously awaiting 3.0 as we all had to awaiting 2.0. I now treat my drive as if it were a Samsung or Hitachi pre-78 in regards to Lt+ 3.0 after discovering that it doesn’t perform the checks.

It was probably a wise decision to post this question here in the forums by the way, that way only registered members can respond and anyone who doesn’t care about Hitachi won’t even look at it as opposed to the “comments” section(s) where any random Joe can respond and thumbs-down.

just to throw my opinion into this, i doubt it will take as long for hitachi 3.0 as it did for 2.0. one reason is there are only two drives that need it as opposed to nine. also going to 2.0 allowed a whole different format of disc to be read, going from 2.0 to 3.0 just adds the ability to calculate ap challenges from the topology data. that is something already successfully working on other drives. of course i make no claims to understand the firmware writing process at all, but it seems to me that hitachi 3.0 will be “easier” to make. guess we’ll see.

I’m not really worried about LT+ 3.0, i’m pretty sure my 79 4b00 is not performing AP 2.5 checks, so I stay on 2.0b and I’m playing all my old AP 2.5 and my new XGD3 games (without patching) with no problems at all.
Lucky me!!!

Now quick, question can i use a samsung drive on a hitachi motherboard? and i think my 79 does ap2.5 checks.

you can but if your 360 expects a AP2.5 check response from the sammy and dont get one you wont be able to play the game even though it shows on the dash.

I tried it in a liteon’d system where the laser died so i swapped in a 59 and it would play the older non ap2.5 and xgd3 titles fine but whilst the newer titles showed up on the dash they wouldn’t play..

Hi, I’ve been following this website since a friend suggested it for i know when the newest patches comes out.

Just before 2.0b came out my friend patched my Xbox360 Elite (fat) Hitachi 79 after replacing the original DVD drive. I did put in another Hitachi 79. At the moment i have the 2.0 patch done to my box and not able to play XGD3 games. How can i check if my 79 is performing AP25 checks? I don’t know much about my drive other than its a 79. I’d like to start being able to play my backup copies of my good games for i don’t mistakenly scratch them up.

Thanks.

Thanks for the replies guys. Apparently I’m another one of those lucky rev 0079-4E10 guys with a drive that doesn’t perform AP checks. I was on 2.0 getting the single red light on XGD3 games because I was waiting for 3.0 instead of updating to 2.0b but this morning I had some free time so I decided to go for it and flashed 2.0b. Guess what? an unpatched version of MW3 is booting up just fine, no errors anywhere and after running xVal everything is still clean no flags either. Keep in mind that I’m always signed in on live so I have the latest dash and the silent update.

Some older games like NFS:HP and Black Ops that had their AP tables update recently, I’ve been able to run too with no problems at all.

I was starting to think that having a hitachi drive was a disgrace and I was even ready to purchase an extra xbox with a Benq drive but now I feel lucky to have this one.lol.
