First off let me say what a great website. There is a wealth of info on here and I’ve learned so much trolling the threads. Thanks to everyone who contributes

My g/f is going to be getting me an IHAS buner for Christmas and I’m trying to figure out the best way to connect it to my Sony Vaio Laptop. I have two options.
1) SATA/IDE to USB 2.0 Adapter

2) external enclosure

Can someone give me their input on what would be the best option to go with?
Also do I need anything else with the external enclosure?
I’m pretty new to this kind of stuff so please try not to hate on me too much. I’ve looked for the answers elsewhere but they seem to elude me.

One other concern I have is the burning speed. I’ve been told it will be slower than it would be if the IHAS was in a desktop. Can anyone who has experienced this comment on how big of a difference it is?

Thanks for any help/feedback I get on this!

Both options will work just fine, the only difference is how it looks, external enclosure is the fancy elegant solution, USB Adapter Cable is a low budget and more portable solution.
Personally, I have a USB Adapter Cable, and even was able to flash the drive without connection to a Desktop PC Sata Port, I flashed it directly via the USB Adapter Cable.
However, I finally decided to permanently connect the drive to my desktop pc in the CDROM bay via internal SATA port because this is the primary machine where I download and save all my games ISO’s and it’s a waste of time to be copying 8 GBs ISOs from one PC to another only to burn it.

If both options work the same I’ll probably go with the usb adapter. Do you notice a considerable difference in burn time between using the ihas externally as opposed to internally?

Appreciate the feedback

no big diff and 2×4 is the best to burn at neway takes sumtime but good burn and verifiys 100% have 3 324b’s and have use them all external and internal when they first came out trying to to see if there were any better way I.E. internal , external and it was no big diff. its up to the user bro. it takes 40 mins burn and varifiy at 2×4 and thats from a mac with parallels running windows 7 and it only uses 1gb of my macs 8gb’s of ram for the windows setup. you will be fine good luck dont know about real pc as far as speed?

Thanks, Hopefully I won’t waste that many Verbs trying to get the burn process correct. Once I get all the equipment I’ll read up on it some more but I’m hopeful that the threads on this website, google, and youtube can get me burning quickly and correctly.

It’s funny cause I told my g/f a couple weeks ago that I wanted the IHAS, USB/IDE adapter, and a pack of verbs for Christmas. This week she tells me that when she went to Microcenter the guys all said I was on the wrong track. They convinced her to buy a DL burner (LG) made for a laptop and then told her it would take days to burn anything using the IHAS with a laptop. Glad to know they were wrong but I did start second guessing myself since I’m new to all this
