Hi Let me start by saying that I am a newbie at this. I have a xbox360 phat with lt 3,0 and a benq drive. I can play all games fine. My best friend has a xbox360 phat with lt 2,0 and an old hitachi drive. He has borrowed some of my new games like mw3, but they dont work on his machine. Why is that? Help me Obi-Wan Kenobi |

Depending on his drive it is possible that it does allow ap 2.5 checks. If that is the case which it sounds like it then he will not be able to play any xgd3 or xgd2 with ap 2.5 checks till the 3.0 update is released. Another small possibility is again depending on the drive model 2.0 for Hitachi didn’t work on all drives that well. Soon after a 2.0B firmware was released for some models. It is possible if he is on 2.0 he just needs the 2.0B update and it will work. Personally when I upgraded my Hitachi to 2.0 xgd3 still didn’t work but after 2.0B came out everything now works fine. |

He should be able to. Those ones shouldn’t be effected by the 2.5 challenge so he will not need to wait for LT 3.0 as it will not be made for that drive. He will not however be able to play xgd3 unless he has upgraded to lt 2.0 firmware. Any custom firmware prior to that will NOT allow Xgd3 to be played at all. If they aren’t booting up I would assume he never upgraded to 2.0. It was released about 6 months ago so if it hasn’t been re-modded since then its a good indication he doesn’t have it. Once he upgraded he should be set till M$ releases some new crazy protection in the future which will require another update.. This scene is a constant uphill battle. |

He has upgrated to lt 2,0 a week ago. Then he tried some of my xgd3 games, but they dont work. He says that it says the disc is unreadable. I have run then through abgx and made them as an overburn. They work well in my phat with benQ. Are we doing something wrong? |

hmm well actually there is another possibility. How are you burning your games? The truncate method will NOT work on Hitachi. You must have the Ihas drive with burner max to correctly burn them. Truncate works on some drives but on my Hitachi and from what I have heard others too Truncate just won’t work. If he is on 2.0 That is best I can think. It is possible his laser is going bad. Some have said they have issues with x3 when never having issues with x2 and after replacing laser all was fine. |

what speed are you burning it at? just because it runs through abgx doesn’t mean it can’t fail when burning it. I never burn anything at a speed higher then 2.4x. I have accidentally let a couple go at 4x the game will show up on the 360 but will not load and give an error. It also could be the laser on your 360. If you are burning at correct speed and still nothing works pick up a dvd drive cleaner and see if that helps at all. Almost everyone here will swear that you need to use Verbatim discs. I will agree that quality and longevity they are the way to go. I use them for rips I really care about and those like sports that are updated every year I use memorex or Windata and I have hardly ever had any issues. With the cheap media my overall fail rate is prob one out of every thirty or so. To me with the cost savings vs verbs that fail rate is fine by me but, again never burn above 2.4 especially when using cheaper media. A Verb might handle 4x but my fail rate on the cheap media at 4x is about 90% |

I ALLWAYS use verbatim. I burn them at 4x because that is the lowest possible. It is an ihas 122. I have an old pc, but it works for me. But maybe my friend could try cleaning his xbox with a cleaning cd. |
