Hi guys
I have Lite-On DG-16D2S (74850C) with Lt 3.0 which is knackered now. Its even having probs reading originals. I plan to get a whole new drive instead just replacing the laser. I found a UK site that sells them and they give instructs on how to replace. they suggest I inject they key from my old drive and flash. My question is could I just open both drive cases and swap the circuit boards ie: put the flashed board in the new drive. without doing all the flashing bit… cheers guys

yes u can do just that with sammys and hitachis there r 4 ribbon cables and thats it but with benq or liteons slims as well there is 4 wires that will need soldering or u can splice them but i would solder them easy. but i u have ur key then it wont require any extra hardware to flash the new drive with ur key and lt+3.0 just need jungle flasher sata port on pc power the drive with the 360.

steps

1 leave the drives power cable connected to 360 but sata unplug connect to pc
2 now power on the 360 and launch jungle flasher
3 load the lt+3.0 in target firmware then click manuel spoof and browse to where you got ur key.bin or type it manuel then save the file as it will be ur new drives firm
4 now click mtk flash then u should see ur drive info under the port its on
5 click liteon erase and then yes and yes agian then when asked to powercycle the drive do so quickly by” unpluging the power cable from the back of the liteon drive and very quickly plugging it back in” “in-out quick”
6 then it should show ur drive propertys to the right now with status 0×72 if so then continue and click write then set back and when its done writing all 3 banks and verifies the key complete. click outro the device unplug sata from pc and reconnct sata on 360 and test the drive with backup and original. hope this helps u bro good luck!!

i know lots of people who use the 360 for power. generally i would not recommend it, but if you know the risks (possible to damage power cord, plug it in backwards, or get “flagged” for powering on xbox with no drive) then there is really no reason to use a different device for power. the x360 usb pro is great though. while twisted’s answer may seem a bit wordy or roundabout, it’s pretty much how you do liteon erase using the console for power.

to answer the original question again: yeah sometimes it’s easier to just switch the circuit board than the lasers. liteon and benq lasers are pretty easy for me to remove, and that doesn’t require any soldering, so i would probably switch lasers in those drives, but for some reason i could never figure out how to get the laser out of the hitachi. i usually just switch the boards for those. you DO need to flash it with firmware containing your key of course.

@ hilly360 i have all the pro tools , and can do it all. . since the guy didnt sound like he wanted to mess with flashing and his ? was if he could change out the pcb. the answer was yes but soldering required for sum. so if he didnt want to flash , i thought soldering was out of the ? . so i told him how he could get it done and new he didnt have a clue. prob gets his drive done elsewhere . if he decided to have ago at flashing v.s. soldering/ splicing with no pro tools and little know how i gave him a out , and i said i would solder over splice guess i could have posted and told him get pro tools lame. ??? but really ?? so fuck off lame!! sup quick ?

I now have all the pro tools but, for about a year I used the 360 for power. Only reason I got the pro tools was because I needed to use the probe. Using xbox power works fine. It is really hard to mess up doing it that way. The only area you can mess up is the power cord from mobo to dvd drive can be pushed in upside down if given force. Just double check the grooves and proceed and you will be fine without having to buy all that stuff. If you do a lot of modding yes get the tools but if it’s only personal use just save the money.
