so i have some questions for Ubergeek, the original poster of the KProbe2 information. only problem is that i cannot register as a user due to high server traffic… so if someone already has an account maybe they could post something for me? here’s what i was going to write in this thread http://team-xecuter.com/forums/showthread.php?t=73612 :

i have some questions regarding this KProbe quality check. first let me say that i always do research before i ask. i did not read all 50 pages of http://team-xecuter.com/forums/showthread.php?t=73298 but i read all 6 pages here. sorry if this has already been answered within those 50 pages.

why do we verify at 4x? i read that the xbox drive reads at 12x or maybe 8x for DL discs… i tried verifying with KProbe2 at MAX speed setting (i think 8x max, avg 6.something) and i got many more errors (which would make sense.) so why use 4x if this is not the speed that the xbox will read at? and if we are to use a slower speed to verify why not choose something like 1x or 2x? seems like it would get less errors.

another question, why use OPC only for 4x? seems to me that Optimal Power Calibration would always be a better choice (hence Optimal) at any speed. is 4x the only speed that *requires* OPC, at 2.4x it is just unnecessary?

next thing i wanted to address, someone mentioned that the disc scan could be affected by other programs running at the same time. but doesn’t the xbox also “run programs” at the same time? that is to say, while it is reading the disc it is also processing other information that is stored on the HDD, RAM, etc… i noticed the only times i got disc read errors on my xbox was when i pressed A too fast (as soon as play game changed to the game image) and didn’t wait for the game to fully “load up”.

also i scanned the same disc 5 times and got some results that were listed as “acceptable” and some that were beyond the listed numbers. i don’t believe i had anything else running during any of the scans. how is this program able to ensure quality when some people might get 85 and 3 on one scan and then 150 and 6 on the next? they could get lucky first try and then fail a check in the xbox, or they could be throwing away discs that are perfectly good except they just had a bad scan…

anyway i am somewhat nervous about posting since people here seem so strict with the “read first” rules, but like i said i have read a lot. (i did scan through many of the 50 pages in the other thread.) maybe some people could check out the forums at c4espeaks and give some input there as well.

maybe someone could just make a post directing Ubergeek to this thread here rather than copying everything i wrote… i would be forever grateful.

Great questions mate – these are the same things I’ve been wondering. Hopefully someone will answer them instead of going “read the rules” or “omg you’re so stupid” as you mentioned – I hate it when they do that
