Hi!
Maybe this isn’t the right place to post it but I don’t have an acc on Team Xecuter forum and can’t post it there:/ I have this weird problem burning Skyrim – I have already burned it twice (don’t have more DVDs at the moment) but I got the same spikes in the middle of both burns – PI goes up to 198 and PIF up to 195 – the rest of DVD is good – I have burned 6 games today and all of them burned well on first attempts. My question is: has anyone got a successful spikeless burn on Skyrim by STRANGE?
Parameters for burn: Win 7 SAFE MODE, default ImgBurn + OPC, write speed: 4x, MKM 003, default iHAS settings (only SmartBurn ON), Cleared OPC before burn
This is an image of my burn: http://img202.imageshack.us/img202/3060/skyrim4opcdef.png

That looks like a major spike at the layer change. The only thing I would suggest is trying a different scene release or playing with the EEPROM settings (ie. HyperTuning, Online HyperTuning). It wouldn’t be the first scene release to have problems so it’s certainly possible the rip/release may have issues, especially since we don’t have abgx to check XGD3 yet.

Your snapshot of KProbe shows that your averages are well within the guidelines but that spike would concern me as well if you’re worried about Live.

The absolute safest suggestion: rip your own =P (sorry m8, I hate that response too but I just had to lol)

I asked on fw IRC channel and they told me to try burning it at lower speed (that is 2.4x) – I will also turn on Force Hyper Tuning (my burns are worse when I turn on OnlineHyperTuning so I will leave this OFF), but I won’t have DVDs until friday or even monday :/ It sucks because I always clear OPC history before burning and spikes like that should not happen :/

I absolutely hate running into problems then when I try to troubleshoot them I have to wait for the delivery man so I feel ya m8.

I still wouldn’t completely rule out the possibility of the STRANGE rip just not being a good rip. Since you’re obviously downloading (not judging, just stating the obvious =), and since you have to wait til Fri or maybe Mon for discs anyway, you could probably have a different release downloaded by then so you could at least compare the results and determine if the STRANGE release is bunk or not. Again, I realize this probably isn’t the holy grail of answers you’re looking for, I’m only suggesting what I would do if I was in your position so hopefully it helps a little bit =)

Waiting for the delivery man is a torture when you have a problem and can’t do anything about it but it’s the only way to get DVDs a bit cheaper. And yes – I am currently downloading games – not all of them but still: I’m not proud of it:/ I used to buy every single game not so long ago, but I had to move to another country and I lost my job – damn you global crisis – and now I simply can’t afford to support all of the producers (but hopefully it will change very soon cause I just love this feeling when you’re unpacking a brand new ORIGINAL game – especially the Special or Limited Edition) Anyway thanks for responding and I will make an update as soon as I get DVDs and burn them with different settings (unless I find someone else with the same problem who already knows if the rip is good or bad). I thought that maybe it’s the DVD’s fault but I got the exact same results on 2 DVDs so I don’t think that’s it. It’s a shame that there is no new abgx – than I would simply check the ISO’s CRC with it:/ And btw. Skyrim is officialy out on Friday so maybe some other group will rip it on Friday – if so I will download their release and see what KProbe says about it:smile:

I totally understand the need to occasionally download some stuff due to the financial downfall over the past few years. I still buy games, but only the ones that I truly want and have anticipated (pre-ordered AC Revelations and MW3) but quite honestly some games are just not worth the $59.99 +tax price tag if it turns out to be rubbish. I have several games that I downloaded first, enjoyed them, and wound up buying them. There were also plenty others that I thought were garbage and therefore deleted. So in my eyes, those game companies didn’t lose any money from me because I never would have bought their crap to begin with without being able to test-play it.

To each their own though, I also realize that many folks do nothing but download and pirate any & every game that releases who probably own one or two originals (which likely came bundled with their Xbox usually lol) so I’m certainly not going to hop on a high-horse and downgrade you simply due to your current unfortunate circumstances. I think the majority of us can relate in one fashion or other.

Cheers m8, and definitely post an update on your progress whenever you get the opportunity because I am very interested in others KProbe results, especially on downloaded releases =)

OP, I’m pretty sure I’m having the same problem. I get around a 95 quality in nero discspeed for the first layer, and then it goes to 3 for second. also STRANGE. but, I do have OPC off and i’m burning at 2.4 with the modded firmware like J4eva mentioned. Anyone have any tips?

First of all: thank you very much guys for responding! I didn’t write anything until today because my blank MKM 003 DVDs arrived today. My problem has been solved but check out how:
After reading your responses and talking to people on IRC I decided I’m gonna go with what J4eva suggested and burn Skyrim with OPC OFF at 2.4x write speed. I cleared my OPC history just to be sure, turned OPC OFF, set write speed to 2.4x, left ONLY Smartburn enabled in iHAS settings, burned in Windows SAFE MODE, BUT because I have modified C4Eva’s CFW for iHAS124 after I pressed BURN write speed has been automatically changed to 4x, so I though to myself “there goes another coaster”, but I didn’t cancel because it was already too late. Now imagine how surprised I was after I checked my burn (4x OPC OFF) with KProbe where the results were: PI max 30 (avg. 1.30), PIF max 4 (avg 0.07) !!! :D
About that iHAS CFW modification: I used MediaCodeSpeedEdit just to change “MKM 0a3-000″ to “MKM 003-000″ and I guess that’s why I can’t write MKM 003s at 2.4x right now (which turned out to be a good thing!).
